about us
The Teesside Veterans Bowls League is an open league - teams in the league can by all male, all female, or mixed. All bowlers must be aged 55 years or over. All league matches are played on Friday afternoons, commencing at 1pm. Two points are awarded to the winning team of each match, or one point each, in the case of a drawn match. In the case of two or more teams finishing the season with the same points total, the league winners will be decided on shot difference.

Clubs may enter more than one team into the league, but a bowler may only play for one of those teams. League matches are played over 18 ends, by four members of each team, each bowler bowling two woods.

Clubs that have their own coloured shirts are allowed to play in them, providing that all members of the team are dressed the same. Otherwise, all bowlers must wear white above the waist and grey below. Regulation bowling shoes must be worn at all greens.
Shorts are permitted at some greens.

The league is divided into two areas by the River Tees - North and South. Currently there is only one section in the Northern area and two sections in the Southern area. The winners of the two Southern section leagues will play each other in a play-off to decide the Southern area champions. The Northern and Southern champions will play each other on Finals day to determine the overall league champions.

Our Finals Day is at the beginning of September. In addition to deciding the overall league champions, the finals of our Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours competitions are also played. The knockout stages of these competitions are played at various venues over two weeks in June, when we have a break from the league fixtures. The league champions and competitions winners will receive an award for their achievements. All losing finalists will also receive an award.

Presentation of all awards is made at our Annual General Meeting, which is held each year in February.
